Salla

It is illegal or against the law to hunt elephants for their ivory tusks. But, many people poach elephants to make money. Oh yeah, to poach means to kill animals illegally. But, you must understand this ivory poaching kills thousands of elephants for tusks.

Sometimes dangerous jobs kill elephants, too. People work them so much they die from the heat of the sun without any mud to keep them cool. Some people make elephants calves and cows work to pick up logs. But, they get tired and don't work. So, all mahouts whip them, starve them and then they die. It is not right to make elephants work for money.

These are ways or solutions you can do to save this endangered species. First, come and work to help elephants. Don't poach or you will kill this species. Also, you can play with one in the zoo. And don't buy ivory jewelry! So, this is how you can save elephants.

  1. Salla,
I think that it is important that you made sure to say that although poaching elephants to make ivory jewelry makes money, it is both illegal and cruel. You included so much interesting information about the ways that people hurt and kill elephants, but also gave powerful suggestions for how to fight against this injustice.
    Thanks,

  2. Salla,
You use good vocabulary words here. "Species" and "mahout" are words from the text. You should explain to people what a mahout is, though. They might not know!
