It is against the law to poach. Poaching is killing elephants and then taking their ivory tusks. They use the ivory for jewelry. If someone tries to take ivory tusks they should go to jail for twenty years. People should be hired to protect the game preserve. We should have guards to protect the grasslands in Africa. Stop killing elephants!

I am going to teach you about dangerou jobs that elephants have to do. Have you ever been to the circus? Have you seen elephants there? Some trainers starve elephants. Did you know some trainers use whips to beat the elephants? In Asia, mahouts use elephants to make them pull down trees and take them from their herds. There are all the ways people are killing elephants.

Hey, let me tell you how you can save elephants. Did you know there are very little elephants left in the world? So stop poaching! Also, give money to Park Rangers in Africa to help elephants. These are the ways you can stop poaching and save elephants.

  1. Davon,
You mentioned that elephants are treated poorly in the circus. Are they also treated poorly in zoos? I really enjoy looking at and learning about elephants when I go to the zoo. Is this something that I should not be supporting and enjoying? Thanks for your idea about giving money to the park rangers in Africa to help stop the killing of elephants. How do you the park rangers help prevent this? Today I made a $25.00 to The International Save the Elephants Foundation in honor of the work that your reading group has done on this topic. I am confident that they will use my money to help support one of their projects. Hope to hear from you soon! Ms.Goodwin :)

  2. Dear Davon,
You have lots of great ideas to help protect the elephants. I think that it is wonderful that you not only care so much about the elephants, but that you are also thinking of the best ways to help them.
    Best, Ms. Hayes

  3. Dear Davon,

Thank you for the information about how to help elephants. Are mahouts people who work with elephants in Asia or are there mahouts in other continents? In which countries do you usually find elephant herds?

I am going to follow Ms. Goodwin's example and make a donation to help elephants!

    Thanks for all the information!
    Ms. Arnold

  4. Davon,
I really enjoyed reading the information you provided about elephants and poaching. I am wondering what exactly my money will be used for if I give a donation to a park ranger in Africa. Will they use it to buy better protection for elephants on game reserves? You seem to know a lot about this topic and I would love to talk to you more about it so that I can also help save elephants from poaching!
    Thanks,
    Ms. Prefontaine
