I am going to teach you about poaching. Poaching is when you are killing. Killing is illegal. People are poaching elephants. This is how you can stop poaching.


I am going to tell you about dangerous jobs that kill elephants. Mahouts whip them. Mahouts train elephants to pull down trees and move heavy logs. When they pull down the logs, there trunks start to hurt. Circus trainers starve them if they don't do tricks for people. This is how elephants are dying.

Let me tell you how you should stop killing elephants. Giving money to the pro-elephant groups would help the elephants. Also, stop buying ivory tusks. And stop using them to log! Also, you should stop letting elephants go to the circus. This is helpful to them and their families. This is how you should save the elephants.

    You mentioned that people are poaching elephants. Where are the most elephants being poached in our world? Africa? You also said that, "Mahouts whip them." What are mahouts? Is this a job that someone studies to obtain? Is there anything that we can do to stop people from becoming mahouts? Are elephants in ALL circuses treated poorly? Thanks for the idea about giving money to pro-elephant groups. I did this today. I hope that they can use my money to help make change for the elephants. Thanks for all of this helpful information.     Dear Isiah,
    Are there any alternative ways for mahouts to do their logging? Is there a safe way for elephants to help them, or another animal that could do the job more safely? I will definitely stop visiting circuses that have elephants in them. Thank you for the information and ideas!

    Why do people use elephants to pull down trees? This seems like a dangerous job for elephants and for any people around. It also seems bad for the environment.

    Are there any laws that keep elephants safe?

    Dear Isiah,
    What you wrote reminds me of when I was in Thailand and I saw elephants being whipped. They looked really sad. Some of them had bones that were sticking out because they were worked so hard.
    I wonder whether there is a way that elephants could do the job of logging and be treated well at the same time. Do you know?

    I am also wondering the same thing as Mrs. Brown. Can elephants do some of the same work that they currently do, but with better health and safety conditions provided?

    Before I read your research, I never knew what a mahout was, but you have cleared that up for me and also taught me a lot about how and why to stop poaching.
